Vancouverism

El término vancouverism se refiere a una técnica arquitectónica y de planificación urbana usada por primera vez en Vancouver, Canadá. Se caracteriza por desarrollos de uso mixto, por lo general con una mediana altura, de base estrecha y comercial, y un rascacielos residenciales para dar cabida a la alta densidad poblacional.

El vancouverismo consta de dos partes: la torre y el podio. La torre alberga la población residencial y el podio, que generalmente no sobrepasa los tres niveles, puede estar compuesto por departamentos o locales comerciales, todo esto con la intención de invitar al transito pedestre y las relaciones personales en el ámbito urbano.

The term vancouverism refers to an urban planning and architectural technique pioneered in Vancouver, Canada. It is characterized by mixed-use developments, typically with a medium-height, commercial base and narrow, and a high-rise residential towers to accommodate high populations.

Vancouverism consists of two parts: the tower and the podium. The tower houses the residential population, and the podium, that generally does not exceed three levels, can be composed by departments or small business premises, all of this with the intention of inviting the pedestrian transit and personal relationships in urban areas.

Starchitect

Starchitect o también stararchitect [arquitecto + estrella]: normalmente es un término peyorativo usado para describir los arquitectos cuya celebridad y aclamación de los críticos los ha transformado en ídolos de la arquitectura mundial y puede que incluso les han dado cierta fama entre el público en general. Su fama se asocia generalmente con la novedad vanguardista.

Desarrolladores de todo el mundo se muestran ansiosos por firmar con "el mejor talento" (starchitects) con la esperanza de convencer a los municipios reacios de aprobar grandes proyectos, o para la obtención de financiación o aumentar el valor de sus edificios. Una característica clave es que el diseño del Starchitect es casi siempre muy visible y emblemático dentro del sitio o el contexto.

*Starchitect or also stararchitect [star + architect]: is a normally pejorative term used to describe architects whose celebrity and critical acclaim have transformed them into idols of the architecture world and may even have given them some degree of fame amongst the general public. Celebrity status is generally associated with avant-gardist novelty.

Developers around the world have proven eager to sign up "top talent" (starchitects) in hopes of convincing reluctant municipalities to approve large developments, obtaining financing or increasing the value of their buildings. A key characteristic is that the starchitect's designs are almost always iconic and highly visible within the site or context.

en arquitectura el termino se refiere a un movimiento cuyos edificios tienen una forma de protuberancia orgánica, o amiba. Aunque el término "arquitectura de burbuja" estaba en boga ya en mediados de los 90's, la palabra blobitecture apareció por primera vez en forma impresa en 2002, en la columna "Sobre el lenguaje" de William Safire en el New York Times Magazine en un artículo titulado "Defenestration". Aunque la intención en el artículo era dotarla de un sentido peyorativo, la palabra se ha quedado y se utiliza a menudo para describir los edificios con curvas y formas redondeadas.

The term refers to a movement in architecture in which buildings have an organic, amoeba-shaped, bulging form. Though the term 'blob architecture' was in vogue already in the mid-1990s, the word 'blobitecture' first appeared in print in 2002 in William Safire's New York Times Magazine column "On Language", in an article entitled "Defenestration". Though intended in the article to have a derogatory meaning, the word stuck and is often used to describe buildings with curved and rounded shapes.
