El Sunset Community Centre esta ubicado en un barrio multicultural en Vancouver y alberga salas para diferentes actividades de la comunidad. En 2004 el Park Board aprobó la propuesta para la construcción de un nuevo centro comunitario con el uso de fondos federales, provinciales y del gobierno municipal.El nuevo edificio fue diseñado por Bing Thom arquitectos. Terminado en 2008, fue construido de acuerdo con los standards LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) para garantizar la eficiencia energética. El edificio sigue el contorno del sitio y esta claramente organizado en torno a una circulacion en cruz, el diseño escultórico de su cubierta es fluido y sobretodo destaca el entorno natural del edificio.
The Sunset Community Centre is located in a multicultural neighbourhood in Vancouver and houses rooms for different community activities. In 2004 the Park Board approved the proposal for the construction of a new community centre with funds from the Federal, Provincial and the Municipal Government.
The New building was designed by Bing Thom Architects. Completed in 2008, was built according to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards to ensure energy efficiency. The building follows the contours of the site and is clearly organized around the cross circulation, the sculptural design of the roof is fluid and further emphasizes the natural setting of the building.
